Source-Books for Teaching and Studying

Source-Books in pdf are meant to offer students and teachers varied texts, graphics, and brief commentaries to help them in their studies; with these are included elaborations on select topics. As of December 2007, five such Source-Books have been completed (except for proofreading):

• Humanities I, from prehistoric cave paintings to the late 18th century
• Humanities II, the Age of Romanticism, from the late 18th century to around 1970 (617 pages)
• Western World Religions and Eastern World Religions, both include in-depth study of the relation between quantum mechanics and mysticism, and both have a six-page addendum on punctuation to aid students in the writing of papers
• Towards a New Ethics, wherein the good is understood as accordance with the evolutive flow

These will be available for free download from www.ScholaAntiqua.net by the end of 2008.

A sixth pdf Source-Book is in progress, about half-completed: Creativity, a miscellany of philosophical and artistic theories, with collections from literature, the visual arts, and music.

Barbara Lachman and I have been compiling these Source-Books for years, and they are now being used in classes in a community college. Each student has a (college-supplied) laptop at his or her desk, and each is given at the beginning of the semester a free CD-ROM containing the Source-Book. The teacher can teach from a laptop, or from a hard copy he or she has run off. Works beautifully.
